Domestic Career

The all-around cricketer from Haryana made his state team début on December 6 against Karnataka at the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium during the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy. He had a modest start to his First Class career, scoring a total of 17 runs in his two at-bat outings. Later, on February 25, 2017, he made his List A début for Haryana in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has taken 17 wickets and made 190 runs in 7 FC games, but 484 runs and 91*, his highest score, have been scored in 21 List-A games.

IPL Career

In 2014, Rahul Tewatia received 10 lakhs while playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. In 2015, the Jaipur-based company kept him for the same sum. He was acquired by Kings XI Punjab for 25 lakhs two years later, and in his debut game against KKR, he bowled a match-winning spell of 2/18. He scored 15 runs off of 8 deliveries in the same game. Tewatia earned a three-crore deal with the Delhi Capitals thanks to a stellar domestic campaign. He received the same pay for the following season. Later, Tewatia was transferred from Delhi Capitals to Rajasthan Royals in preparation for the 2020 IPL. For Tewatia, who had made his IPL début with RR in 2014, it was somewhat of a homecoming.

In the eighth game of the IPL 2020, Tewatia was moved up the order to provide some excitement after Steve Smith was dismissed after reaching a half-century. However, the left-handed Haryana cricketer found it difficult to make contact with the ball and even hampered the Royals’ run pursuit against KXIP. Tewatia nearly brought the Royal pursuit to an absurd level with some very sluggish batting. Therefore, no one could have imagined that RR would make a return from there. Tewatia’s poor performance in the chase (first eight runs off 19 deliveries) caused Samson, who made yet another half-century, to lose focus. However, the runs from the game’s final four overs were the deciding factor. Tewatia single-handedly altered the entire trajectory of the chase with five sixes off Sheldon Cottrell’s 18th over. It was an incredible effort that eventually resulted in the highest run chase in IPL history and Tewatia finally shone on the international stage.
