Rashid Khan’s all-round show impresses Gavaskar: Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has commended Rashid Khan for his remarkable performance against the Rajasthan Royals.
With Gujarat Titans needing 15 runs to win in the final over, Rashid Khan, the team’s key spinner, played a pivotal role in securing victory over RR. In a crucial knock, Khan scored an unbeaten 24 runs off just 11 balls. Additionally, he contributed with the ball, taking one wicket while conceding only 18 runs in his four overs.
“Yeah, he may not have hit the stumps as often as he usually does, but when the team needed him with the bat, he stepped up and delivered,” remarked Gavaskar during the ‘Star Sports Cricket Live’ broadcast.

“This is precisely why he’s highly sought-after by franchises globally. His dedication is evident in his batting, bowling, and fielding,” he remarked.
Despite excelling with both bat and ball, Rashid Khan is also renowned for his exceptional fielding prowess. “Look at the effort he puts in while fielding. Some bowlers might hesitate to dive on their bowling shoulder, fearing career-threatening injuries if their shoulder dislocates. But not Rashid Khan; he always gives his all,” remarked Gavaskar.
After Rashid’s stellar performance, Gavaskar drew parallels between him and England skipper Ben Stokes. “Another cricketer with a similar approach, albeit not playing in this IPL, is Ben Stokes. Whenever you see Ben Stokes bat, bowl, or field, he gives his all, 100 percent effort. Coaches and captains crave players like them. While they may not always deliver, you can be certain they’ll never give anything less than 100 percent,” Gavaskar added.
During the IPL 2024 match against RR, Shubman Gill’s batting display also caught Gavaskar’s eye. Gill scored a remarkable 72 runs off 29 balls, including 3 fours and 1 six.
“I’m highly impressed with Shubman Gill because, once again, he wasn’t getting the support he needed from the other end. Establishing a partnership at the start of the innings can alleviate many challenges. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had that luxury. However, he learned from previous mistakes, where he lost his wicket trying to be too aggressive, resulting in a failed chase of even 160 runs. This time, he knew he had to stay at the crease for as long as possible, which he did until Chahal got him out with a clever delivery,” observed Gavaskar.
“Chahal anticipated Gill’s movement down the pitch and cleverly bowled it slightly wide. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic innings from the young Shubman Gill,” Gavaskar concluded.
