- Rinku Singh’s five consecutive sixes in the 20th over helped Kolkata Knight Riders beat Gujarat Titans by three wickets.
- Shreyas Iyer video-called Rinku after the match and hailed him for his heroic knock.
Rinku Singh, the standout batsman for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), made history on Sunday (April 9) by successfully chasing down a record-breaking 29 runs in the final over of the game by slamming five consecutive sixes off Gujarat Titans’ (GT) spinner Yash Dayal.
The left-handed batsman led KKR to a three-wicket triumph over the Ahmedabad-based team by smashing 48 runs off only 21 deliveries. It should be noted that this was GT’s first loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
In response, KKR struggled early on and lost both of their openers despite having scored 28 runs. The squad was saved by Venkatesh Iyer (83) and Nitish Rana (45), though. The Kolkata-based squad was once more put on the back foot when the pair was quickly defeated by Alzarri Joseph.

After Rinku’s spectacular inning, Shreyas Iyer video phoned the cricketer from Uttar Pradesh and praised him for his outstanding effort. Iyer greeted Rinku with “Rinku Bhaiya Zindabad” (Long live Rinku brother! ), to which Rinku responded, “Bhaiya, kaise ho? God’s plan! How are you, brother?
In the conversation, Iyer’s replacement as captain of the KKR, Nitish, also chimed in, asking the latter, “Dekh raha tha ki nahi? Have you been watching the innings? Yaad aa rahi hai teri. We are missing you),” read a tweet from the official KKR Twitter account.
