In-demand batsman KL Rahul won’t be included in India’s starting XI for the upcoming third Test match against Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, according to veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik.
He noted how unfortunate it was for India to lose Rahul in the second innings of the Delhi Test because the ball bounced off short-leg fielder Peter Handscomb and fell into keeper Alex Carey’s hands.
Karthik clarified, though, that the batter’s poor recent Test performances would be the reason for his removal rather than just that one bad inning.
Discussing Rahul’s lack of form, he told :
“I think he [KL Rahul] played the best shot possible to that ball. But he would also know that if he is going to be dropped for the remaining matches, which is pretty much an eventuality, it is not because of this one innings. It is because of what has happened and transpired over the last five or six Test matches.”
Karthik advised the batter to think about taking a break in order to prepare for the three-match ODI series against Australia, which begins on March 17.
The 37-year-old believed that Rahul’s struggles weren’t brought on by any technical difficulties and that his dry spell was rather a result of internal struggles. The guy, he said, is among the best batters in all of cricket, and he was confident that he will soon have a successful comeback.
Karthik continued, “He is a great act and excels in all mediums. “But at this time, I don’t believe the technique is the problem. I believe the reason of his severe discomfort is something that occurs between the ears. He might require some downtime from the sport in order to travel back and return rested for the ODIs.
There are not many right-handed batters you can watch in terms of the quality and range of shots that he possesses, but one thing is for certain: he will come back strongly.
Many cricket fans and previous players have criticised KL Rahul for his subpar performances in the first two Tests. In the first Test, he was out for 20, and in the second, he had scores of 17 and 1.
“I have to go with Shubman Gill” – Dinesh Karthik on KL Rahul’s replacement
India will only make one change to their starting lineup for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, according to Dinesh Karthik.
Given his recent stellar performances, he believed Shubman Gill deserved to replace KL Rahul in the starting lineup.
“I have to go with Shubman Gill, he’s just batted beautifully. There will be just one change in the playing XI. I feel very bad for KL Rahul, I think he’s been under the scanner,” Karthik added.
The seasoned wicketkeeper expressed sympathy for Rahul, implying that the batsman was likely to feel quite depressed following his dismissal in Delhi’s second innings.
He continued, “Yeah, it’s a professional world, it’s a sport, and you’ve got to deal with your firings and those heartbreaking times. “But as a player, I can only imagine what he must have gone through when he realised that this could have been his final inning. It has occurred to me that I went into the locker room, went quietly into the bathroom, and cried a little bit. It’s a bad sensation.”
On Sunday, February 19, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chose an unchanged team for the final two Test matches. Rahul was demoted from vice captain, though.
In the meantime, Rohit Sharma and company defeated Australia in Delhi by six wickets to grab a commanding 2-0 series lead. India has kept the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after the victory.
On Wednesday, March 1, the third game of the four-game series is scheduled to begin in Indore.
